What minimum PC configuration is required to use VWorldTerrain technology?
VWorldTerrain automatically -or
upon user’s request- adapts to the
performances of the user’s PC. The more powerful the PC, the more detailed
and accurate the terrain rendering. A laptop with a 3D card is sufficient to
get a fairly good graphic quality. Recommended configuration is minimum 2 Ghz
microprocessor, minimum 128 Mo VRAM 3D card, and minimum 512 Mo RAM.
2- What are the OS VWT is available on?
VWT works on WindowsXP, Open GL PCs. A Linux version is under consideration.
3- Is VWT evolutive?
VWT is based on our proprietary procedural algorithms. VWT is therefore absolutely
capable of evolving, by the very principles in use in these algorithms. Besides,
VWORLD sees to constantly adding technical and graphic improvements, so that
VWT remains a cutting-edge technology in the advanced terrain simulation field.
4- Can it render a whole planet?
Yes, indeed. VWT has already been used as the technology behind Eingana
Act 1 and Eingana 1.5, products which presented the entire Earth
in real-time 3D on 2 CDROMs. A project on Planet Mars is presently under study.
5- What is the degree of terrain accuracy compared
to the real world?
We use various databases for terrain, presenting a resolution varying between
1meter and 928 meters.
6- Is vegetation true-to-life (appropriate location, various
species....)?
We use a system of simultaneous integration and interpretation of LandCover
data (giving info as to the composition of the ground and corresponding vegetation).
We are thus able to achieve particularly realistic results in the simulation
of vegetation: each species is represented at the appropriate location, within
the limits of the accuracy of the database used.
7- Is weather managed according to natural and realistic
rules?
Weather management is based on the same procedural principles as those ruling
terrain and vegetation rendering. That system therefore includes real-time interpretation
of meteorological databases.
8- Can you display cities?
We have devised a city extrusion system based on algorithms that allow to extrude
buildings in real-time, while making use of databases that can be less than
one meter precise. We are thus able to build the replica of an entire city almost
instantaneously.
9- Does VWT allow generation of seabeds?
Yes, much in the same way as it generates terrain above sea level, VWT allows
to render seabeds. However under water data are rarer and less accurate than
land data.
10- How long have you been developing VWorldTerrain?
First algorithms were written in 1996. First commercial product making use of
VWT was issued in 1999. VWT is regularly upgraded with the latest technical
enhancements provided by our R&D team.
11- When will the evolutions of VWT be implemented
in the Eingana software / the Dark and Light MMORPG?
VWORLD has not been ordered any new version of Eingana. The team has
stopped working on the Dark and Light project in August 2004, consequently none
of the evolutions of VWT are going to be implemented in this project.
